WHAT IS VEGANISM? Veganism is a compassionate way of living that excludes all forms of cruelty to animals. A Vegan can be referred to as a pure vegetarian because they have gone one step further than a vegetarian, to exclude dairy products, eggs and honey from their diet. Meat, fish, poultry, eggs, animal milks, honey, and the derivatives of all of these are replaced with plant based products, such as fruit and vegetables, pulses, seeds and nuts. Further lifestyle changes are made by excluding other animal products. For example, by replacing leather, silk or woollen products with man made materials and cotton fabrics.
Veganism was never intended to be merely a diet, it is a reverence for life.
|
Throughout history there have been people who have attempted to live as harm free as possible, but there was no particular name for their lifestyle until 1944 when several members of The Vegetarian society of England came up with the word Vegan and then established The Vegan Society.
Veganism was never intended to be merely a diet, it is a reverence for life. Most people choose to become Vegan for the reasons of preventing the suffering of animals.
Other reasons include health benefits, concern for the environment and spirituality.
When people choose to become Vegan they make a commitment to bettering themselves and the world around them.
There are few areas of life that the Vegan ethic doesn't touch or influence. Veganism is the path of honouring ourselves, our planet and all life.

WHAT IS ORGANIC GROWING? Organic growing is a system which uses natural materials to nourish the soil to produce vegetables, fruit and other crops. It does not use pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or agriculture chemicals such as hormones, antibiotics, growth stimulators or regulators, and artificial fertilisers. Instead, organic farmers work with nature to build the fertility of the soil, and to produce crops without harming consumers, farm workers, soil, water, wildlife or the environment. It is a system which nature has used for millions of years.
There is nothing new about organic growing.
By 1987 mainstream people had begun to question the use of chemicals in their fruit and vegetables. People started looking for alternatives and began to seriously consider organic methods and to seek organic produce. Many groups were formed to promote organic growing and to make sure of organic standards. Organic growing had now become respectable and organic products can now be found even in your local supermarket.
Organics are grown with a higher focus of health and well being for people. It also tastes alot better!! Anyone who has tried it will tell you how good organically grown food tastes, it has the full flavour of natural fruit and vegetables. This is because the sugars are allowed to develop naturally, they are not sped up with growth enhancers or increased in size by over watering or excess nitrate applications. With organic produce what you see is what you get. There are no invisible poisons and no artificial colouring, sweeteners, or wax coatings (generally petroleum derived).
Choosing to eat organically grown fruit and vegetables is a start to supporting the goodness of the Earth and your own inner harmony.
It really is a heart and belly fulfilling experience to know that you are eating from your own choice of wholesome organic food. |
